I’ve agreed to help migrate a Drupal 7 site to a new domain/host, and the owner wants it updated. Since Drupal 9 is current, I figured I’d do that. I have no previous experience with Drupal.
I have access to the old site’s files in two folders:
- oldsite.zip – contains
index.html
,hts-cache/
, and a few pictures - oldsite.tar.gz – contains a number of directories including
vendor/
,scripts/
,patches/
, and others
I found one or two resources on upgrading from Drupal 7/8 to 8/9, but I’d like to know if I need to install the old site on the new domain/host first, and how I can do that from the two files above, OR if I have to create a new Drupal 9 site and import the content from the two files above.
Alternately, could I install the old site locally with Acquia, upgrade it, then move it to the new remote host/domain?
Thanks!
