backup_migrate not completing

Drupal 9.3.7, backup_migrate 5.0.1 — it works fine on my local server (Mac/MAMP), but not on my production site (hosted at pair.com). On local, I get an uncompressed file of 4.4MB, on the remote it stops at 4.3MB and never completes. This is a database-only backup, and I have 256MB memory_limit set on both servers. This appears to have been around for close to a year. (https://www.drupal.org/project/backup_migrate/issues/3214627)

I’m wondering if others have encountered this problem and might have advice for figuring out a solution.
