Drupalcon 2018 vs drupal.org account

I’ve not found a better place to ask this, I’ve signed up for Drupalcon tickets and am unable to claim them because the email addy I used to identify myself is my work account. Clicking the redemption code link prompts this error:

Pulling account sam@work.com failed: maybe there is a typo or their email doesn’t exist on drupal.org

OK, I’ll be a Drupal.org account holder long after I leave where I’m working now. It seems to be a failure that I can enter in an email I want under:

“Enter an account or email address that will use this ticket”

that is different from my drupal.org account email addy. My workplace should get nominal credit for paying for it but I’d like to link it to my Drupal.org account. Am I forced to create a new Drupal.org account under my work addy? Hate to be forced to do that, sam
